The Nunoa Project has a mission to help and support the people and the camelids of the Peruvian Altiplano. The Project goals include both humanitarian aid and veterinary support. The President of the Project is Dr Steve Purdy, a well-known camelid veterinarian in the Northeast. This coming weekend, Astraios will be going to the Northeast Alpaca Expo, then on to this new home at Laure-Lin Alpacas in Syracuse, NY. Both Ron and I are realizing how much we are going to miss this big boy! Both Astraios and his older brother, [...] It’s over! And with the help of very good friends, shearing not only was not painful, it was actually fun! Many, many thanks to Larry from Twilight Ridge Farm, Jane from Berry Hill Alpacas and, last but not least, Kathy and Tracey from Foggy Bottom Ranch who went above and beyond to help us. For [...] The North American Alpaca Show will once again be hosting a silent auction to support Quechua Benefit. This organization is a non-profit whose mission is to provide care and support to the indigenous Quechuan people of the Peruvian Highlands. Quechua Benefit provides dental, medical and optical care as well as medicine, clothing, shoes, blankets and [...] And a big “Thank you!” to the folks at Blumenau Alpacas in Indiana for their purchase of Jubellita’s Jinx. This young, ribbon-winning male has extremely fine fiber and is the offspring of our 10x Champion/Reserve Champion herdsire, Snowshoe Aristides. Jinx will be two years old this summer and ready to begin his breeding career. We [...] Now that we’re experiencing some milder days, it’s time to get out the camera and update our sale photos. This is also a good time to do a little lead training while getting better shots of individual alpacas. The other day we took Electra out for a little walk and got a nice pic of [...] This time of year usually find us beginning to halter train last year’s crias, especially those we plan to show in the spring. Only one of the crias we are currently training will be shown in the upcoming season – Snowshoe Ginger. This 9 month old fawn female is a daughter of our Champion herdsire, [...] No sooner are the holidays over and, instead of enjoying the relative quiet of winter on the farm, we are already faced with making decisions about and getting registered for spring alpaca shows.
